West Chester ASL Group Code of Conduct

To help create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone attending the West Chester ASL Group, all participants are expected to follow the guidelines below.

1. Respect and Boundaries
Everyone is expected to treat one another with respect, maintain proper boundaries, and avoid behavior that makes another person feel uncomfortable.

2. Voice Off Policy for Hearing Individuals
Hearing individuals acknowledge that this is a “No-voice” event. Within the Deaf Community, it is considered rude to speak instead of Signing during ASL gatherings. Participants are expected to make every effort to communicate through Sign Language during the event.

3. Inclusiveness from Deaf and Hard of Hearing Participants
Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants agree to be inclusive of hearing individuals and students, showing patience and understanding as they continue learning ASL and Deaf culture.

4. Student Participation and Signatures
Students seeking signatures for class credit will not receive a signature simply for being present. To earn a signature, students must actively engage in at least 20 minutes of Sign conversation during the event.
